Mermaid at dawn

A beautiful quiet morning, unusually warm for Cornwall.

Mermaids represent a socially dangerous temptation to ecape the constraints of "civilised" living especially the weight of discipline and duty which traditionally oppressed sailors. To an extent all members of the modern world are under the same pressure to conform and the mermaid tells us that we are free to abandon all the restricting rules of society and frolic in the sea with her - whether we would survive to return is not clear but maybe not so important…
