Town & Country, 1970

Growing up on a farm but now working in über-smart Royal Tunbridge Wells meant that M was not always dressed for her surroundings!

My favourite wool minidress, which I think must have shrunk in the wash*, was rather ahead-of-fashionable in town and definitely unusual in the rural setting – but the pony (and the local farmers) didn't seem to mind...

* It was not quite this short when she was standing still but tended to ride-up with any reaching or bending move, so she had be careful while shopping – on one occasion when I had dropped her off in the high street I had to run after her and suggest she carry her suede shoulder-bag in her hand as she hadn't noticed that it had pulled the hem right up to her hip on one side as she walked (and she was only wearing semi-opaque tights underneath). If only I had stopped to take a photo first I could have been a year ahead of the famous image by June (wife of Helmut) Newton (aka Alice Springs)...
