M. Windspit 1971

From "The Naked Portrait" series. There is something special in the look of a head-and-shoulders portrait taken when naked – often this can be missed because the viewer naturally wants to take in the whole view. I am therefore making a series of "naked portraits", cropped from original nude photos, which can also be flagged "safe" so they can be seen by a wider range of people. For this one, her spontaneous pose in the full frame version was also "safe' but this concentrates on her face.

A fun portrait of a person and a time. I was adjusting the brightness of a photo of Marie taken as we were exploring the dramatic Windspit caves on te Dorset coast and I accidentally zoomed right in and realised that, even more than the wider frame, it captured the essence of her adventurous spirit as, having shed her clothes, she perched on the edge of a steep rock before climbing up to the opening over the sea.

The technical quality is limited because it it such a selective enlargement of a small part of the 35mm neg but I don't think that matters – the expression comes through...
