燕鷗獻餵 ( 小燕鷗 ) - a photo on Flickriver

            小燕鷗 Little Tern【學名：Sterna albifrons】鷗形目 / 鷗科。別名：白額燕鷗、丁香鳥、海鳦仔(台語)。

雌雄同形。繁殖羽時額白色，頭至後頸、過眼線黑色，頭至頸、胸以下白色，背部灰色，腰及尾上覆羽白灰色。尾羽白色呈交叉剪刀狀。虹膜黑色，喙黃色、末端黑色。腳橘黃色。( 此照為繁殖羽 )

全球廣佈於亞洲、歐洲、非洲、澳洲。臺灣普遍屬於夏候鳥，但經研究仍有少許停留在臺灣，也是臺灣唯一停留繁殖的鷗科鳥類。

小燕鷗主要出現在河口、海岸、沼澤、魚塭、濕地等環境，常單獨或群體行動，飛行覓食，主要以小魚和蝦為主食，也會吃昆蟲。

小燕鷗繁殖期主要在4~7月，一夫一妻制，約產卵1~3顆。喜選在海岸沙礫推中的小珊瑚碎屑來坐巢，或是砂地推成的小坑洞。因為鳥卵為乳白色，帶淺色褐斑，故不易被敵發現，與沙礫形成保護色。若前往拍攝時，務必小心勿踩到鳥卵；若過度接近的話，親鳥會近距離驅趕，甚至放鳥大便攻擊。

拍攝觀察小燕鷗時，若有其中一方坐巢孵蛋時，另一半則會飛到海面上去獵食，也見到了小燕鷗對另一半是如此的窩心，來共同孵育下一代。在高溫守候了好幾個月，終於拍到了。

不過也由於小燕鷗的棲地與人類活動的範圍常交叉到，所以在拍攝時，也常見小燕鷗將蛋產在垃圾周圍。有時會見些遊客會在沙地玩車差點碾壓到，遊客和外勞將鳥蛋取走，甚至連野狗也是威脅對象之一。
