26/04/2009 (Day 3.116) - Aren't You A Little Short For A Hoplite?

Today was the last day of filming for 'The First War For The West', and I did a full seven hours of work as an extra on it. Today I was mostly an Athenan hoplite, and it was bloody hard work. The costume was heavy and uncomfortable to wear, and the long spear a lot harder to manipulate than I thought it would be; many of us were in as much danger from our own troops as we were from the enemy. I am utterly exhausted, and ache all over.

Here I am in my full kit, although the shield hides most of it. You can see the costume here, and a better shot of the helmet (the best bit) here.

I have no idea why Athenian troops fought under the flag of the Isle of Man :-)
