Mercedes Benz 300 SLR Coupe - a photo on Flickriver

            In 1955, Rudolf Uhlenhaut designed a coupe based on the 300 SLR, of which only two were built. Uhlenhaut used the gullwing doors of the Mercedes-Benz W198, which was introduced a year earlier. This "Uhlenhaut coupe" had twelve times the performance of the then widespread VW Beetle with 25 hp and was the fastest vehicle with street legality with a top speed of 290 km / h. It served Uhlenhaut as a service vehicle for the drive to work, to the annoyance of its neighbors, who were awakened early in the morning by undamped exhaust noise. Mercedes initially planned to use this coupe version for long-distance races, which it no longer came because the company retired in 1955 from racing.(Wikipedia).
