Pioneer School - a photo on Flickriver

Pioneer School

            This schoolhouse was used from 1914 to 1967.  It is located in a rural area about 40 miles northwest of Cody, Wyoming.  The number of students served ranged from 8 to 26 in grades one through eight initially.  Later, older students were bused to a centralized school.  Over the years the building was remodeled and additions were added (music room and teacher's apartment) and the heating system changed from coal to oil.  Reportedly the structure is currently in use as a community center.  However, I doubt it has seen much recent use by humans.  I peeked in the unlocked front door and saw boxes of papers strewn across the floor and evidence of  substantial bird habitation.
