Wildfire Spreads Despite Weather in Santa Susana Pass

SANTA SUSANA PASS - A quickly spreading wildfire north of the Ronald Reagan (SR-118) Freeway near Rocky Peak Road between Chatsworth and Simi Valley on August 18, 2021, brought a swift air and ground response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, Ventura County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department, as the locale represents a historical mutual threat zone for wildfires involving all three agencies. First-to-arrive LAFD Helicopter 'Fire 2' made a bold initial attack on flames, successfully slowing the fire's advance in volatile brush.

The day's low cloud cover, mild temperature and even some precipitation earlier in the day, clearly had no effect on the fire's rapid spread.
