Nantes, le château 2 - a photo on Flickriver

            Le château des ducs de Bretagne est un ensemble architectural situé à Nantes, constitué d’un rempart du XVe siècle et d’édifices divers bâtis du XIVe au XVIIIe siècle, classé monument historique depuis 1840.

Après avoir été résidence ducale sous le duc François II et la duchesse Anne, le château est devenu une forteresse royale, siège du gouverneur de Nantes et prison royale, puis caserne à partir du XVIIIe siècle.

Devenu propriété de la ville de Nantes en 1915, le château est affecté à un usage touristique et muséal depuis 1924, notamment sous la direction de Joseph Stany-Gautier, conservateur jusqu’en 1969. De 1990 à 2007, le château a bénéficié d’une rénovation de grande ampleur et est depuis le siège d’un nouveau musée consacré à l’histoire de Nantes. Conséquence de la transformation de la communauté urbaine en métropole, le château devient un équipement métropolitain le 1er janvier 2015.
