Bangor North Wales Whitsuntide May 1973

            British Railways Class 24 diesel 5039 with a west-bound train of sheeted sulphur wagons waits on the signal in the Down through road.

Bangor station is located between two tunnels, the one seen here takes the line eastwards towards Llandudlo Junction.

D5039 was new to Ipswich (32B) on September 24th 1959, renumbered 24039 June 8th 1974 and withdrawn July 17th 1976. After two years in store It had been scrapped at Swindon Works by the third week of July 1978.
