Burnley Rose Grove, Lancashire 28th April 1968

            Another shot from my first visit to a BR loco shed not to mention the first time I tried to photograph a steam engine!

Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 44848 and an 8F 2-8-0 48544 have been withdrawn and dumped on one of the dead end roads by the turntable - note the con rods tied to the running plate. Beyond the buffer stops the ground drops steeply down to the Leeds & Liverpool canal.

44848 was built at Crewe in 1944 and after a varied career, including time on the GCR out of Leicester GC & Annesley sheds, was withdrawn by BR w/e 17th February 1968. It was cut up at Cohens in Kettering in July 1968.

Today nothing remains of 10F Rose Grove shed & traffic on the M65 motorway thunders through this location although the canal still runs beneath it.
