Guilin Guangxi China 3rd November 1983

            A reprocessed version of an earlier posting I made during the first lockdown. The colour balance has been reset and the light levels improved. Well I think so anyway!

The morning of the last day of steam during our RT&P tour was spent by the lineside on the north side of Guilin at the exit from a large freight marshalling yard & by the junction of the branch to the loco shed.

1) First up is China Railways FD 2-10-2 1198 seen departing northwards at 10.40 with a freight train. This was the first of 3 of these regauged ex-Russian FDs that we saw on freights that morning, the others being 1484 and 1047. 

2) The trains were made up in the yard by two JF11 2-8-2s. 3772 & 3777. Here 3772 slowly pushes its wagons over the hump alongside large-tendered QJ 6462 that has just come off shed. A warning horn is heard and a passenger train behind a DF3 diesel rushes past towards Guilin station.

3) The QJ heads off light engine to then drop down onto its train in the yard.

4) JF11 3777 shunts out of the yard and is followed by 3772 which then pushes its wagons slowly over hump with FD 1198 waiting on the shed exit road. As the FD heads north JF 3777 passes again.

5) Having picked up its train QJ 6462 powers past northwards with a very mixed freight.

6) FD 1198 backs down to the yard before returning at the head of another mixed freight.

7) Both JFs are seen shunting before QJ 6464 arrives from the north with another freight train. The final scenes are of JF 3772 slowly backing its wagons into the yard.

Later that day we flew to Canton on a brand new Boeing 737 and the following day we were on the 08.30 train to Hong Kong pulled by DF3 0182.
