Matlock Derbyshire 14th March 1979

            The view northwards from Matlock station's only platform. The Midland Railway's main line  through Monsal Dale to Manchester & Buxton opened in 1850 but was closed beyond Matlock in 1967 leaving just a shuttle service between Derby & Matlock.

In 1979 the stone built goods shed and associated trackwork was still in situ but later road building associated with the A6 and a supermarket on the site of Cawdor quarry led to its demolition.
