A new series of works from a recent trip to Wanganui...

Here is a wider view of the 'utilitarian' part of the Memorial Hall - you can see the caretaker's flat in the top right, which is the ultimate destination of the stairs. Also on the right hand edge is the beginning of the iconic concrete screen - the defining feature (apart from the purity of its form) of this building. There is a full-height void between the screen and the actual skin of the building, which can be accessed from the the first level landing here. It is quite a magical space - I will post images from within there sooner or later...

This sub-series features the Wanganui War Memorial Hall - a fine example of pre-war international Modernism realised right here in litlle old 'Wangas' (albeit a couple of decades behind its international precedents).
