RTB PB17 + 5538 @ Raeren Breite Wege

            Het was ooit het plan om van de voormalige NMBS 5538 een smalspoorlocomotief te maken en deze te verkopen aan Congo. In Kinkempois begon men de loc een 10 tal jaar geleden te restaureren, maar uiteindelijk ging de verkoop niet door. De loc vond daarna lange tijd onderdak bij “RAIL & TRACTION INTERNATIONAL SA” in Raeren. De 5538 is nu echter gekocht door een privé persoon en zal nu een nieuw leven beginnen als museum locomotief bij de “chemins de fer à vapeur des 3 vallées” !

Op zaterdag 12 december 2020 mocht RTB Cargo de 5538 van Raeren naar Mariembourg transporteren met een snelheid van max 40 km/u! Op het traject tussen Raeren en Eupen was de snelheid zelfs beperkt tot max 10 km/u, op dit stuk van lijn 49 was er ook al enkele jaren geen enkele trein meer geweest!

It was once the plan to turn the former SNCB 5538 into a narrow gauge locomotive and sell it to Congo. In Kinkempois they started to restore the locomotive some 10 years ago, but in the end the sale did not go ahead. After that the locomotive found shelter at "RAIL & TRACTION INTERNATIONAL SA" in Raeren for a long time. However, the 5538 has now been bought by a private person and will now start a new life as a museum locomotive at the "chemins de fer à vapeur des 3 vallées" !

On Saturday 12 December 2020 RTB Cargo was allowed to transport the 5538 from Raeren to Mariembourg at a maximum speed of 40 km/h! On the route between Raeren and Eupen the speed was even limited to max 10 km/h, on this stretch of line 49 there had not been a single train for several years!
