            Saint Basil's Cathedral
The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed commonly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is a church in Red Square in Moscow, Russia and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the country. It was built from 1555 to 1561 on orders from Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. 

Die Geschichte der Kathedrale beginnt im Jahre 1552 mit dem Errichten der Kirche der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit zu Ehren des Sieges des russischen Heeres über die Tataren. Schon drei Jahre später wurde die aus Holz gebaute Kirche der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit abgetragen. An ihrer Stelle wurde anschließend im Auftrag des Zaren Iwan IV. (Иван) die Basilius-Kathedrale errichtet.
