Leven tussen het dode hout - a photo on Flickriver

Bij ondergaande zon vertrekken de Brigade-locomotieven 99 3315 en 99 3317 in voorspan van de Abzweig Mühlrose naar het eindpunt Schwerer Berg aan de rand van de dagbouwgroeve Ochten. Vanuit het bos hebben we zicht op het treintje en de onmetelijke kale vlakte van de bruinkoolafgraving. De twee kittig stampende locomotiefjes zorgen gedurende een kort moment voor leven tussen het dode hout.

De "Brigadelokomotiven" zijn voor het uitbreken van de Eerste Wereldoorlog ontwikkeld voor de Duitse spoorwegtroepen. Gedurende de Eerste Wereldoorlog nam de behoefte aan Feldbahn-materiaal enorm toe. Van deze locomotieven voor 600 mm smalspoor zijn er door vijftien fabrikanten niet minder dan 2.573 stuks gebouwd. Na de oorlog waren de locomotieven over bijna heel Europa verspreid en werden ze zelfs verkocht naar landen in andere werelddelen zoals Brazilië, Congo en Mozambique.
Bij de Bad Muskauer Waldeisenbahn tegen de Duits-Poolse grens deden ze tot 1977 onder Reichsbahnnummers dienst.
