315 2011 Remembrance Day

            I went along to Holy Trinity Church for Remembrance Day. There wasn't anything organised, but while I was taking a few photos by the war memorial, a small group of people joined me there: an older chap, a younger man in uniform and beret, and a woman - oh, and a dog! They placed their crosses in the ground, and I added mine. Then they lit some tea lights, which were a bit soggy, and soon blew out in the wind. A card was put in place and we observed the two-minute silence. Then the younger man took out a hip-flask and drank a toast. He passed it around, including offering it to me, and I was happy to toast those who'd given their lives. After another short pause of remembrance, he said to his companions, "Come on, we're not Americans," which broke the mood with a touch of humour, and off they went. I was pleased to have been able to be a part of this simple, informal ceremony.
