U.S. Post Office - Aurora IL - a photo on Flickriver

The original U.S. Post Office located on 18 W. Benton Street, which is now home to Sci-Tech Hands-On Museum. The building, constructed between 1931-1933, is architecturally significant as a Depression era structure, combining an eclectic use of materials and Neo-Classical design motifs. Gargoyle water spouts can be seen on the facade. The Post Office building is an arcaded block building, featuring a series of evenly spaced, round arched window openings. It is a commercial style that was popular during the early 20th century, and was derived from the great arcaded porches built in Italy during the Renaissance. James Wetmore was the supervising architect.
