Morning Wave (reflection below) - a photo on Flickriver

What a moving story of Mother Marianne of Moloka'i. As I was reading chapter 9, of this book....I had to write this passage down:

Her power grew out of her wish to work for God alone, not for mere men like premiers, or bishops, or kings. By putting behind her all interests in vanities and illusions of this world-allures of political maneuverings, sectarian vauntings, financial profit, the praise of society, the pleasure of positions, the body's ease, and all the such temptations which gratify the ego and suborn the spirit-she freed herself to listen to the call from God.

As I embark on my own call, I hope that I can keep these important truths always before my mind and heart! The pettiness of life can easily crowd out the one important thing...to listen. The message is simple, but the mandate feels impossible. Yes, to shrink the ego...to disappear...
