Russia maidens, a beautiful day. - a photo on Flickriver

            It was a Sunday in St. Petersburg, Russia in August on a hot sunny day.  I saw wedding celebrations taking place everywhere I turned.  These lovely ladies were wearing traditional peasant costumes with flowered headbands. This tradition may date back to a time young unmarried girls plucked fresh flowers and made traditional crowns for themselves, signifying that they were of marriageable age. People believed that that wreath helped them find their beloved one. In this case it was just good friends celebrating a beautiful summer day in the park.
