Sand and Sky

            Its hard not to admire the Milky Way when in the Alvord Desert in Oregon.  I did not expect to see the stars on this night because the moon was rising early.  In fact, I was setting up for a moon image when my daughter said "the Milky Way looks cool tonight."  I said, nope, the moon is coming up early so...Oh, well, yes, there it is.  I did not have time to break out the star tracker, the moon was just starting to crest over the hill and would soon wash out the scene.  I shot this the good old fashioned way- 30 seconds, and as wide as the lens would give me, in this case, 2.8.  I did some blending for the lighter spots.
