The Color Seekers

My pal from Idaho, Brent Watkins, had planned a whirlwind trip to my stomping ground to get some Fall color. He was gracious enough to ask me to join him. Good thing too, because it forced me to actually get out there.

He had planned a trip to Multon Bridge and Lower Lewis Falls. He was going the next day to Silver Falls. He said he visited these two places last year and all the leaves were gone, so he came out a week earlier this year, and guess what? They had not really turned yet. Sometimes you just can't win. So it was time to make lemonade out of lemons.

I had this happen before with one of my favorite images. We went to Lost Lake to look for Fall color a few years ago and had the same issue. There were a few token trees that were very red, but just a few. So I put them creeping into the frame and shot what I could. It worked then. So here with Brent I tried to do the same thing.

We were at Lower Lewis, the rain would not stop. There was one tree that turned early and had some great color, so I set up an image looking through the tree to the falls below. I have to admit, I had seen this done here by someone else. So while this looks like crazy Fall everywhere- no. Hardly any Fall anywhere. Get what you can I guess. So this was shot with an umbrella over my camera, all my equipment soaking wet and using one small spot of color.
