Surfing the Fire Wave - a photo on Flickriver

            Just home from a sweeping tour of the Southwest.  We had done the big stuff on many previous trips, so this time was kind-of the leftover trip.  We did less-popular sites like this one, Valley of Fire.  Ok, that may not seem like a B-class location, but its one we blew off time and time again.  Not this time.   I think the overall theme of the trip quickly the underestimated underdog trip.  We were very impressed by most of the sites we went to (except Petroglyph National Monument, yuk).   This is an iconic part of the Valley of Fire called the Fire Wave.  We had to go early to get the place to ourselves.  I also wanted to assure I had some shadows, the noon-day sun is not very flattering here.

I wanted to try to use a strong leading line by using the shape of the rocks to put you into the wave.  This is actually 32 blended images, its focus stacked and exposure blended.  Took some time for sure.  

I was planning to do a night image here also, but they close the park after dusk.  Why do some parks brag that they are dark sky friendly and then lock you out at night?  Stop saying you are dark sky friendly!
