Spring is waiting for you - a photo on Flickriver

            I have been a big fan of tulip fields, and I usually buy season passes to those who open their doors to the public.  I had heard about a similar iris garden near Salem Oregon, the Schreiner's Iris Gardens.  I got a season pass to the place sight-un-seen assuming it would be like the tulip fields.  Well, it was different. 
 I like that the tulip fields let you have basically free roam of the fields themselves.  That allows for many creative compositions.  Here, they don't let you in any of the fields.  Grrrr.  Not cool!   Wish I knew that before I got a season pass.  However, they had a large demonstration garden.  The pass only let you into the garden.  Turns out that was not so bad.  I would rather be in the fields, but this garden still made the season pass worthwhile.  They did a great job in the large garden.  I have to be honest, I really struggled with compositions though.  Yeah, I could just shoot flowers, but anyone can just shoot flowers.  I wanted something with foreground, depth, something that would tell a story.  

Good news is they had these Adirondack chairs all over the place.  That helped a ton.  They say the image fails if you have to explain it, but I will anyway. I slapped on a long zoom lens, positioned one of these chairs, and composed it to have a trail behind the chair, acting as a leading line,  I added depth by having the yellow flowers drape over the trail, framing the chair and the scene.  Then I used the chair to give the eye a landing space.  I would have preferred a spiral where the tree led to the trail, that then the trail led to the chair.  But I will take what I can get.  I still think the image pulls you in and makes you want to sit there.  that made the image work for me.  Hope you like it too.  

Not sure I would get a season pass again.  I did end up going a few times to get the optimal growth on the yellow flowers (sorry, I don't know what they are called).  Perhaps a 1 day ticket next time.  Let me know what you think.
