Yosemite Point Pano - a photo on Flickriver

This is the scene that greeted me as I arrived, gasping for air, after my 5 hour hike. This was also right about the time that I glanced down and noticed my Nikkor 28-300 VR lens lazily rolling by right before it jumped off the 2000 foot precipice directly in front of me.

Off to the far right you can see Eagle Peak which was my objective for the day. I realized, as I collapsed at the top of the falls, that there was no way in **** that I was going to be able to keep going the additional 3 miles out to the peak, but I noticed some people standing above the falls at Yosemite Point and decided that would have to do instead. I'm glad that I had just enough left in me to make it the last mile up to the point or I would have missed out on the mid Summer light hitting the Southern side of the Valley just as the sun was beginning to set. Grey clouds had been around for most of the day, so I was smiling in spite of the fact that I couldn't breathe as I arrived and saw the clouds breaking up. After taking a barrage of shots, I thought I would try a pano resulting in the 14 shot attempt that you see here, taken with the Nikkor 14-24. From left to right you can see Half Dome, Liberty Cap, Glacier Point, Senitnel Dome, and the back side of the three brothers, including Eagle Peak. El Capitan would be behind the three brothers on the right. You can also see that cursed trail on which I hauled my self up, nearly killing me between my D4, multiple lenses, my tripod, and two liters of water. I swear there must have been around 285 switchbacks. I stopped counting after 100 and something. Or maybe it was only 75. All I know is that hikers kept telling me it was just ahead, and it never was!

I'm hoping to set out for Eagle Peak at some point in the not too distant future, but next time, I'll be packing a micro 4/3rds camera and a gorilla pod. :)
