The "Famous Five" on probation. - a photo on Flickriver

            In a wild twist of fate, Enid Blyton's famous five, once the epitome of adventure and mischief, had now found themselves in the most unexpected of predicaments. Middle-aged and tired of the mundane, they had swapped their midnight feasts for midnight drinks, their bicycles for rusty shopping carts, and their detective skills for expertly locating the nearest pub. 

Dick, once the brains of the gang, now had a permanent furrowed brow from trying to remember where he left his socks. Julian, ever the leader, was now a self-proclaimed philosopher, delivering profound speeches to a gathering of squirrels in the park. Anne, who once prepared the most delightful picnics, had become a connoisseur of cheap wine and had a full sex change and prefers to be called Andrew.

George, true to her tomboy nature, had developed a talent for arm-wrestling strangers for loose change, always willing to prove she was still the toughest of the bunch. And Timmy, the loyal dog, well, he had mastered the art of playing "fetch" with empty beer cans. Oh, how the times had changed, and yet, through the haze of their merry adventures, the famous five remained a merry band of misfits, finding solace in cider, beer and laughter, forever young at heart even if their probation officer begged to differ.
