WHITE-LINED TANAGER Female Tachyphonus rufus. This female White-lined Tanager has been drinking nectar from the orange cup-like Porotón flowers of the leguminous tree, Erythrina megistophylla Diels, family Fabaceae, along the Vía Cunuco about one and one half miles northwest of Mindo in northwestern Ecuador in the early morning of May 16, 2020. A male White-lined Tanager was also observed at this time drinking nectar from Porotón flowers in the same tree.

Endemic to Ecuador, Erythrina megistophylla has flowers adapted to pollination by passerine or perching birds (Order Passeriformes). We have observed a variety of passerine birds drinking nectar from these flowers as well as a number of hummingbird species.

White-lined Tanagers belong to the family Thraupidae and are found from Costa Rica south to southeastern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and northern Bolivia as well as in Trinidad.

Una hembra del Tangara Filiblanca Tachyphonus rufus ha pasado un rato bebiendo el néctar de las flores naranjas de un árbol leguminoso Erythrina megistophylla (nombre común Porotón), familia Fabaceae, por la Vía Cunuco unos 3 kilometros al noroeste de Mindo en el noroeste de Ecuador temprano por la mañana el 16 de mayo de 2020.
