Early Evening in the Avon Valley - a photo on Flickriver

            One of Colas' small fleet of class 66s is about to exit the Avon Valley south of Bathampton with a train of long welded rail. 

The train was enroute from Westbury to a possession at Bargoed in the Cardiff Valleys.

Despite living relatively close to the picturesque Avon Valley, over the years I have captured few images that show the landscape well.    On this day in May 2021 an unusually high concentration of locomotive hauled trains brought myself and several other photographers out to try our luck.  

A hail storm had previously pummelled the area, but by the time I took this, a fine and clear evening was in prospect.
