Bellefontaine Cemetery 11-09-24 - No 10

Established in 1849, Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, is not only a historic resting ground, but also an accredited arboretum with over 14 miles of paved roads and more than 180 species of trees and shrubs. It is one of my go-to places to visit in the fall when the leaves change.

Driving through Bellefontaine Cemetery is like taking a history lesson on the rich and famous. The cemetery features some of the most spectacular mausoleums and memorials built by and for some of the wealthiest and most famous Americans of the time. U.S. Senators, Congressmen, a U.S. Attorney General, authors, inventors, artists, athletes and heads of large businesses have all come to rest here. Also interred at Bellefontaine are members of several notable brewing families, including the Anheusers, Buschs, Lemps, and Griesediecks. The Cemetery is an outdoor museum containing some of the finest sculptures and memorial art in the country.
