OK Motor Services, County Durham: AEC Reliance/ Plaxton Elite Express ‘LUP 744J’ (digitally-coloured)

This was one of the first - possibly the very first - grant-specification Plaxton Elite Express. OK Motor Services was a great advocator of 'grant coaches' and, within a few years, had converted most of its stage carriage operations to the type. LUP 774J was bought new in 1971 and sold for further service two years later; I believe it was the last AEC Reliance bought new. As a teenager in the early 1970s, I lived on the route of Ok’s Bishop Auckland Town Service, which was crew-operated with double-deckers during peak hours, but switched to an Elite Express at other times. This was either a Leyland Leopard or Bedford YRT, presumably depending on what needed to accrue stage carriage mileage under the terms of the bus grant; I knew very little about buses at the time but could readily differentiate between the two types by sound alone. I have not been able to identify the source of the original monochrome image so the usual proviso applies (it will be removed if you can satisfy me that you own the copyright).
