Huriawa, Karitane Peninsula - a photo on Flickriver

            This is Butterfly Bay (Te Awa Mokihi in Maori) where for centuries canoes landed with their catch of fish for the village nearby. The red mud was mixed with shark oil to make a protecting paint for the body.

Edit: As with many of my photos I have adjusted colour and contrast back to the way it looked when I took it rather than what the camera thought it should look like.
