Dusty the Dacia and another kit church

            Well, we might have all laughed at the thought of an East European car but here in Iceland they are the car of choice of the car hire companies. and why not? Both of Dusty's current drivers have been amazed at its capabilities both on and off road. And it is so quick off the mark that both of the rear door handles were left behind before we stopped to pray at the first church we came to just four miles from Reykjavik airport.

Actually on picking up the car we were so smug we elected to go for comprehensive cover, nearly doubling the total car hire cost, knowing that in some places car hire companies operate a damage scam meaning owners pay 1000 euros or more in excess payments for insignificant scuffs that might normally be deemed normal 'wear and tear'.

We wondered if ours was a trick car, from which it was intended pieces would drop off, and the hire company have hundreds of spare door handles to refit for the next unlucky punters without comprehensive insurance.
