17 May 2019 — Ft. Stockton, TX — Tornado and Exploding Hailstone

            Beautiful Ft. Stockton tube about to merge and dissolve into the heavy precipitation of the storm's forward flank. When a storm has such a clear, high base like this, it's a dream to actually see a tornado spin up on it.

Grabbed this shot just as a chunky hailstone exploded on the road. I absolutely can't stand being in big hail, but there was no other way to view that scene between terrain and the limited road network. My daughter, on the other hand, is a big fan of disaster-sized hail and was loving the ice explosions nearly as much as the tornado.
