SZÉCHENYI LÁNCHÍD - EL PUENTE DE LAS CADENAS
Budapest está considerada una de las más bellas ciudades del mundo. Repleta de monumentos y edificios de valor artístico e histórico. Consta de dos partes que en otro tiempo constituyeron dos ciudades independientes: Buda, la región occidental formada por colinas; y Pest, la planicie situada del lado oriental del Danubio. Las dos se unificaron en el año 1873 como consecuencia de una ley de 1872 que proclamaba la unificación de Buda, Pest y Óbuda (Antigua Buda).
Budapest es una ciudad de ensueño y hay un sinnúmero de posibilidades para disfrutar de la mejor oferta cultural gracias a sus numerosos museos, cines, teatros: el Teatro Nacional de la Ópera, el Teatro Municipal de Operetas, el Conservatorio, el Instituto y las funciones de ballett, así como toda una gama de programas folclóricos que se desarrollan periódicamente en cualquier parte de la ciudad. Uno de los grandes acontecimientos culturales es el Festival Internacional de Primavera (Tavaszi Fesztivál) que se celebra anualmente durante dos semanas.
El Puente de las Cadenas (el nombre oficial es puente Széchenyi ánchíd) de Budapest es el más antiguo de los puentes que unen las dos ciudades Buda y Pest, que hoy conforman la capital de Hungría. El ingeniero civil escocés Adam Clark, fue el ejecutor de la obra, que se comenzó a construir en 1839 y fue inaugurado el 20 de noviembre de 1849. Al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial las tropas alemanas dinamitaron el puente. Fue reconstruido y se inauguró el 21 de noviembre de 1949, festejando el primer centenario de su construcción. Desde el punto de vista estructural es un puente colgante, en el cual se han sustituido los cables principales por eslabones rígidos de una cadena. Su vano central es de 202 metros, uno de los más largos del mundo en su apertura.
