20081_1976_08_Toton_A3_800dpi

            A “bunk round” my local depot Toton on the 15th August 1976 finds 20081 stabled outside the front of the shed.

Locomotive History
20081 was originally D8081 and was built by English Electric at the Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn works, Darlington. It entered traffic in August 1961, allocated to Eastfield for Scottish lowland (Forth-Clyde area, and Fife coalfield) duties. In common with most class 20’s initially allocated to Scotland it has the cab recess for single line token exchange equipment. Transferred to Toton in February 1970 where it basically remained until withdrawn in May 1993. It spent the next twenty seven years stored until moved to the Caledonian Railway at Brechin in October 2020 for a new life in preservation.
