Saint Jean Pied-de-Port, France - a photo on Flickriver

            This is one of those out-of-the-way places that most Americans never make it to. Historically though, it's one of the great tourist attractions in the world. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is the traditional starting point of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. For 1000 years, pilgrims have hiked the 780km Camino across the entire breadth of Spain.

It's a Basque town where neither French or Spanish is the local language, despite the fact it straddles the border.
