Forest Primeval

            Autumn in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, Japan.  This is a footpath through the forest between Jigokudani (Hell Valley) and the sulfurous Oyanuma Pond.

While I was assigned to USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63), stationed in Japan, I had the great good fortune to make a port call in Muroran on the Island of Hokkaido.  During a two-day break from duty, a shipmate and I traveled to nearby Noboribetsu, famous for its hot spring fed spa hotels, and took in the surrounding autumn beauty.
