Stranger #38 – David

I saw David from a distance, he was with a friend of his. They were ahead of me, I had to walk fast overtake them and then turn around and say hi which isn’t as graceful or smooth as one might assume.

David is from Colombia, he studied biology and is now doing a PhD in neurosciences on post traumatic stress disorder, on the link between the way the brain is wired and the tasks people do. This is done in the lab where they can see the pathways in the brain, they light up like a Christmas tree. I was curious about what ignited David’s interest in this field. “I took LSD years ago. It left me with so many questions, like how can a molecule do that?”

J’ai vu David de loin, il était avec un ami à lui. Ils étaient devant moi, j’ai du marcher au pas de course, les doubler avant de me retourner et de leur dire bonjour ce qui n’est pas aussi gracieux qu’on pourrait le penser.

David vient de Colombie, il a étudié la biologie, il fait une thèse en neurosciences sur les gens qui souffrent de stress post-traumatique, de façon plus spécifique il étudie le lien entre la façon dont le cerveau est câblé et les tâches que réalisent les gens. Il étudie cela en laboratoire où il peut voir les connexions dans le cerveau qui s’illuminent comme un arbre de Noël. J’étais curieux de ce qui avait déclenché cet intérêt de David pour ce domaine. “J’ai pris du LSD il y a des années. Je me suis retrouvé avec tellements de questions, par exemple comment est-ce qu’une molécule peut faire ça au cerveau?”
