Davilla, Texas is located on Farm Road 487 in western Milam County amid rolling farm and ranch country. It was settled in the 1860 and named for Miguel Davila, who had received the original land grant from the Mexican government in 1833. The site was later purchased from the Davila estate and town lots were sold with the restriction that alcoholic beverages never be sold in the settlement. Though the railroads bypassed the town in the 1880s, it still enjoyed some prosperity with the population reaching approximately 500 in the mid-1890s. In 1903, it has one school with three teachers for 161 white students and another school with one teacher for 38 black students. The population declined through the first three-quarters of the twentieth century reaching 72 residents in the 1970s.
