Anna Ruby Falls - Explored - a photo on Flickriver

            Last Wednesday, I traveled to NE Georgia to visit four new waterfalls.  The third of my day was Anna Ruby Falls near Helen, GA.  The weatherman gave me a great cloudy day with a light breeze.  If the sun peaked out, it didn't last long.

My day started with my alarm going off at 3:30am and driving about 3 hours to my first waterfall of the day.  I racked up nearly 6 miles in hiking and didn't get back home until 9pm.  A very full and fun day.  Colors, surprisedly, were much past peak and the majority of leaves were off the trees.  Two years ago when I was in the area I found peak colors in mid-November.  Some falls had very good water flow while others were low.

Anna Ruby Falls, at 154 feet tall, is quite impressive.  The trail is less than a half mile long and is rated as relatively easy.  The trail to the falls is all uphill with some sections being pretty steep.  There are two main viewing decks.  This image is from the top one.  From this vantage point, you really need to shoot with a wide angle lens if you want to get it all in.  I would have liked to gotten off the deck but that was not allowed.

The next time I go I'll definitely stay overnight in Clayton so I'm not as rushed to fit in all the great waterfalls in the area.
