La mosca tigre (Eristalinus taeniops) pertenece a la familia sírfidos, la de las moscas grandes de color marrón con franjas transversales en el abdomen que fácilmente pueden confundirse con himenópteros si no se observan con atención. Para aumentar su similitud con las avispas, los sírfidos pueden mantenerse estáticos en vuelo. La mosca tigre es reconoce de los demás sírfidos por sus exclusivas 5 franjas verticales oscuras en los ojos. Las hembras, como el ejemplar en las fotos, tienen los ojos separados, mientras que los ojos de los machos se tocan entre ellos. A diferencia del temido mosquito tigre, la mosca tigre es inofensiva. Los adultos suelen verse rondando las flores
