1866-67 was at Stock-im-Eisen-Platz 6, opposite St. Stephen's Cathedral, a magnificent building on behalf of the carpet house Philipp Haas & Sons planned by August Siccard of Siccardsburg and Eduard van der Null. It was Vienna's first department store in iron frame construction, clad with a heavy stone facade of strict historicism. After its destruction in 1945, this building was replaced by a new building in 1951-53 by Carl Appel, Max Fellerer and Worle. This house was demolished in 1985 in favor of modern Haas House. On 19 September 1990 was opened in its place one of the most fascinating contemporary buildings in Vienna. With the outer shape of the Haas House is one part dealt with the corner rounding of the Roman camp quadrangle, as also its appearance in the Naglergasse, on the other hand, with the large rounding the final bay an urban watershed between the Stock-im-Eisen-Platz and Stephen's square is planned, which by points in space area even should have been strengthened.

H. is one of the pioneers of post-modern architecture, he uses a pictorial-semantic , and anti-anti-typological structural design. Architecture is defined as contextual art, as a research and commentary, plastic structure occur in many different forms . In addition, H. joined as a designer of exhibitions as is "Turks before Vienna " (1983 ) and " Dream and Reality" (1984). 1978-90 passim Commissioner for Art and 1991-96 for the Venice Architecture Biennale. Great Austrian State Award 1983. Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1985, Badge of Honour for Science and Art 1990, inter alia.
