'Sit Down Please' is a simple but potently provocative image depicting the intertwining legs of two women. The setting is simple, an unadorned table is central with three plain cream armchairs, each with highly polished legs placed on a plain beige carpet that meets magnolia walls. This could be a hotel room or a meeting area in an office. The setting forms a stark contrast to the chic sophistication of the four legs and intrinsically ornate black satin and leather shoes that adorn their slender feet. From the slinky heels to the black fishnet stockings, the viewerâs eye is drawn upwards to the seemingly unclothed respective torsos of each woman. Both are perched on pure white armchairs to the left and right of the picture, while a third chair lies empty in the background. The woman on the right reveals two highly manicured fingers, which stretch across to her left elbow as the hint of a breast is encompassed within. The naked torso on the left leans inwards, resting a right elbow on the table. The top of her left hand is placed in the middle of the otherwise barren table, perhaps stretching towards to the woman on the right. Beyond this the viewer is left to surmise, denied their identity and refused all knowledge of their purpose. Their body language is intimate, perhaps playful and indicates the excitement of two women completely at ease with their bodies, perhaps joking with one another while they wait, but for what? Do they await a third person to fill the chair in the background? Are they models on a set awaiting their call? Are they pole dancers, as the stand for the table may suggest? Are they ladies of the night? Are they simply lovers? They play footsie, with sleek legs that relax openly to cross one another while gently brushing together. As their toes touch in the foreground, they conjure up an image of intimacy upon which some men may fantasize, but we, the viewer, are forced to leave them there, locked in that moment for eternity. 'Sit Down Please' is a limited edition contemporary photograph created by the highly regarded Italian photographer Rossano B Maniscalchi.
