Jafer Berdi (presently known as Druzhnoye) is a village lying at the foot of Dolgorukovskaya Yayla mountain massif about 15 km east of my home in Simferopol (capital of the Republic of Crimea, Russia). It was named after (or possibly founded by) Jafar Berdi—one of the sons of the legendary khan of the Golden Horde named Tokhtamysh—who himself became the khan of the empire for a brief period (1417 to 1419). Coincidentally, the name Jafar means “brook, stream” in Arabic, and indeed, the Minor Salgir river originates in the eponymous Jafar Berdi Gully between two spurs of Dolgorukovskaya Yayla, namely Zolotoye Yarmo and Sultan Qaya.

Джафeр-Берди (нынешнее Дружное) — село, лежащие у подножья Долгоруковской Яйлы примерно в 15 км к востоку от моего дома в Симферополе. Оно названо в честь — а возможно, и основано — одним из сыновей легендарного золотоордынского хана Тохтамыша. С 1417 по 1419 Джафар Берди сам был ханом Золотой Орды. Интересное совпадение: в переводе с арабского «джафар» — это «ручей, источник», а в одноименной балке Джафар-Берди (между отрогами Золотое Ярмо и Султан-Кая) берёт своё начало река Малый Салгир.
