The Old Bailey

            Named for the ditch or 'bailey' which formerly formed part of the defences of the City of London, Old Bailey is the site of the Central Criminal Court. The Courts occupy the site of the former Newgate Prison, from which those condemned to hang at Tyburn would set off on the eight or so "Tyburn Fairs" each year.
