Kentucky’s Round Hill community builds around Adena Burial Mound of 500 B.C.-100 A.D.

If you want to know about ancient North American natives and see their works, Kentucky is the place to be. However, where there used to be many pre-Columbian Native American Adena Culture mounds of the Early Woodland Period that dotted Kentucky, many of these sites have been plowed over by modern farmers and lost over time. This photo shows how difficult it would be for an untrained eye, say a farmer, to recognize that the small round hill that they see is actually an ancient manmade earthwork. 

But not here, not this community. A small modern hamlet has been built around an ancient mound that sits on private property. 

The Adena Mound is the small rather pyramid-shaped hill at the center of the photo, which now has trees growing on top as well as homes, powerlines, and roads flanking it.
