Commonly known as balloonplant, balloon cotton-bush, bishop's balls, nailhead, or swan plant, is a species of milkweed. The plant is native to southeast Africa, but it has been widely naturalized. It is often used as an ornamental plant. The name "balloonplant" is an allusion to the swelling bladder-like follicles which are full of seeds.

Mata de la seda — Asclepias physocarpa es una especie de angiosperma perteneciente a la familia de las apocináceas. Ahora, algunos autores, la han catalogado como una sinonimia de Gomphocarpus physocarpus E.Mey.  La planta es una fuente de alimento para las orugas de las mariposas Danaus.(mariposa monarca). La oruga encapulla en esta planta.Y la abandona al convertirse en mariposa monarca. Si se tiene esta planta al aire libre puede atraer mariposas monarcas y estas dejaran sus orugas si no hay algún otro insecto.  También es popular en la medicina tradicional para curar diversas enfermedades.
Es nativa del sureste de África, pero se ha naturalizado ampliamente. A menudo se usa como planta ornamental. Crece en los bancales en carretera, a 800 a 1500 msnm. La planta prefiere la humedad moderada, así como suelos de arena y bien drenados con pleno sol.  Asclepias physocarpa fue descrita por (E.Mey.) Schlechter y publicado en Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik, Pflanzengeschichte und Pflanzengeographie  (Beibl. 54): 8. 1896[1896]. Etimología  — Asclepias: nombre genérico que Carlos Linneo nombró en honor de Esculapio (dios griego de la medicina), por las muchas aplicaciones medicinales que tiene la planta.  physocarpa: epíteto   Sinonimia - Gomphocarpus physocarpus E.Mey.Asclepias brasiliensis (E.Fourn.) Schltr. Gomphocarpus brasiliensis E.Fourn.

Algodoeiro Falso, Seda — Pequeno arbusto (1 a 2m) (tipo biológico: fanerófito), perenifólio, frequentemente multicaule, com caules erectos; folhas inteiras, aproximadamente lineares; flores com corola lobular branca ou amarela agrupadas (3 a 15) em inflorescências sob a forma de umbelas axilares; frutos em forma de folículos apiculados contendo, por via de regra, mais de 120 sementes, aladas, providas de penachos com pêlos sedosos.
Morfologicamente é muito semelhante ao seu congénere Gomphocarpus physocarpusE. Mey. [Sin.: Asclepias physocarpa (E.Mey.) Schlechter], não sendo fácil para um não especialista distingui-los a não ser através da observação dos frutos: folículos apiculados no caso do Gomphocarpus fruticosus e globosos no caso do Gomphocarpus physocarpus.
Distribuição: espécie originária da África Austral, é actualmente cultivada como planta ornamental e encontra-se naturalizada em muitas outras regiões subtropicais e temperadas quentes. Em Portugal há registos da sua presença, como espécie introduzida e naturalizada, quer no Continente, quer nos arquipélagos dos Açores e da Madeira.
Ecologia/ habitat: ribanceiras, margens de cursos de água, marismas, terrenos perturbados, bermas de estradas e caminhos.Floração: de Março a Novembro.

Comunemente noto come pianta di palloncino, è una specie di euforbia. La pianta è originaria del sud-est Africa, ma è stato ampiamente naturalizzato. È usato spesso come pianta ornamentale. Il nome "pianta dell'aerostato" è un'allusione al gonfiamento vescica-come i follicoli che sono pieni dei semi.

Gemeinhin als Ballon-Pflanze bekannt, ist eine Art von Seidenpflanze. Die Pflanze ist in Südost-Afrika heimisch, aber es wurde weithin verbreitet. Es wird oft als Zierpflanzen verwendet. Der Name "balloonplant" ist eine Anspielung auf die Schwellung Blase-wie Haarfollikel, die voller Samen sind.

Algemeen bekend als de ballon plant, is een soort Kroontjeskruid. De plant is inheems in Zuidoost-Afrika, maar het heeft grote schaal is genaturaliseerd. Het wordt vaak gebruikt als sierplant. De naam "balloonplant" is een zinspeling op de zwelling blaas-achtige follikels, die vol van zaden.

المعروف باسم نبات البالون ، هو نوع من الأعشاب اللبن. النبات الأصلي لجنوب شرق افريقيا ، ولكن تم التجنس علي نطاق واسع. وغالبا ما تستخدم كنبات الزينة. اسم "balloonimals" هو اشاره إلى تورم المثانة مثل المسامات التي هي كامله من البذور.
