"Union of South Africa" at Saddleworth

60009 between Saddleworth and Diggle with the Scarborough Spa Express on Friday 2nd August 2013. I was very fortunate to get this in half sun with the dark clouds behind. Do not go into the farmers field to the left of where I took this shot which is from the cutting leading to the tunnel on the old Micklehurst loop line closed about 50 years ago, he is very anti railway. The footpath is blocked off to my right where a stile should be and the old railway fence has metal brackets with barbed wire on top of it (presumably installed by the farmer illegally) which have been bent down (evidently by enthusiasts keen on getting the shot) to give a clear view of the line. The farmer appeared and told the three of us at this location that he was phoning the BTP. Our fear of being apprehended for such a heinous crime by the BTP coming hotfoot from Manchester was overcome by our desire to secure the shot!
