Wailing Widow Falls, Assynt

In the far North of Scotland lies a small loch just south of Unapool (not to be confused with 'Ullapool') called Loch na Gainmhich. A powerful waterfall spills out of the North end of this loch into the ominous gorge below. The burn then runs through this steep-sided gorge to join Unapool Burn and empty into Loch Glencoul a few miles to the north. The wild beauty of Assynt is absolutely breathtaking and definitely what I would class as a bucket list trip! Yes, other countries have higher peaks and deeper canyons, but there is just something about the landscape of Scotland. There's definitely something in the water...(Nessie).
